Hubby and I have been looking for a house for a while.. When getting ready to start REALLY looking around we went to our bank and discussed our mortgage options. One of the most important things is making sure your credit is CORRECT! I found a few places where you can get your credit for free.. and they will monitor it so if anything new is added they will tell you (monitoring costs a small amount of money each month) here are those places..

www.freecreditreport.com

www.iplace.com

These have helped me tremendously in monitoring our credit and even finding that some credit card companies don't update as they should. Knowing your credit can help get lower interest rates too.

Your proactive approach to monitoring closely your credit history and rating is really admirable.  I just hope more homebiuyers or even general consumers are more like you.  Good luck in your house hunting.

I agree, monitoring your credit before making a purchase is important.  Those are the same sites I tell people to go to .

I do agree with the fact that monitoring one's credit is absolutely important but I do not agree to getting help from monitoring agencies. In fact I like to monitor on my own regularly and that makes me comfortable as to the compatibility between my needs and my credits.

My wife and I both have our credit monitored by a company and I think it is the best thing I've ever done for myself. Once it showed a new account opened on my wifes credit and she had not done it. It turned out that her ex-husband had opened the account online and had the credit cards mailed to his home in her name and then added himself as a user! If we hadn't had the monitoring, we wouldn't have known IMMEDIATELY and he could have used the card!!!

Thanks for those links, knowing what state your credit is in, is always a good mood. I'll have to get my mum to check her credit, I might do mine at the same time.
