Most conventional wisdom is that is better to buy than rent a house.  But there had been alot of literature on the opposing view.  What is your take on this and what advice can you give to potential house hunters?

My advice is that if you can afford, one must buy a house,'cause, you see, the price of real estate rises the fastest and that makes it all the more difficult to attain a house later on.

Thanks Sanju for a very sensible advise.  This is the most common reason favoring "buy'.  Anyone can offer me reasons for "rent".  Thanks!

Very obvious reason for renting is that if a person can not afford to buy.As long as one can't afford one has to be on rent, but the moment you can manage, just buy.

My view up until this past 2 months was to "BUY"... I rented a home for about a year.. then decided I was tired of "throwing" my money away. So I decided to purchase a mobile home, trailer house, whatever you want to call it until my husband and I could afford a NICE home and after we were done having children. Now that time has come and we a pretty much upside down with this house.. we have paid a lot of money for it and aren't going to get much profit out of it. I'm thinking now that it would have been just as well to rent a home instead. Also with renting a home you aren't liable for EVERY little event that can occur.. Busted pipes, broken toilets, bad light fixtures etc etc...
