My husband and I have been married for two years and we are now thinking of buying a house. Is it easier for a couple just starting out to get a loan for a new house or one that is older? Or does it make any difference?

It is definitely easier for you to get a loan, because the banks are interested in the payback capacity.Younger couple is assumed to have higher probability of paying the loan back.

Hi Kelly
New or old should make no difference in the eyes of the lender, the only thing that does make a difference is the condition of the dwelling - a new house for example that needs a re-wire and re-plumbing would be looked at less favourably than a old house in perfect condition, you see what I mean? |

The most important factor in getting a loan is the ability to pay it back and that the house (be it old or new) has a market value that can served as a collateral upon default. Good luck. |
